Newsweek announced the best high schools in the country for 2008. West Covina High School was rated in the top 5% of high schools in the nation. This is major news for the West Covina Unified School District and the City of West Covina. This is the first time Newsweek has so ranked West Covina High School. The ranking reflects the success of the programs and policies of the “new board majority”, the leadership of the Superintendent and staff. Most importantly the honor reflects the hard work of those who make education happen everyday, the teachers in the classroom.
West Covina High School ranked 1195 out more than 27,000 high schools in the country, thus placing it in the top 5% of high schools in the country.

Why is Mike Spence not yelling from the roof tops about this honor? Could it be it would contradicts Spence’s belief that public education is worthless?
Congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff of the district for working so hard to show public education does have value.
